Frequently Asked Questions

  • The legislation that governs therapy follows the client's location, not the therapist's. So, even though I'm physically in Spain, I'm not authorized to work with someone living here. At this time, I work with residents of BC and Ontario only.

  • Due to the remote nature of my practice, the time zone difference, and my availability, I am not currently taking on clients who would benefit from in-person or crisis support. This includes individuals experiencing:

    • Eating disorders not monitored by a physician or dietitian

    • Psychotic disorders

    • Intimate partner violence

    • Active suicidality or high-risk self-harming behaviours

    • Bipolar disorder not managed by medication or monitored by a physician

If you are experiencing an emergency, you should present to your nearest emergency department or call 911. If it is a crisis, you can reach out to a crisis line:

For BC Residents: CMHA Crisis Resources

For Ontario Residents: CAMH Crisis Resources

For Vancouver Island: Vancouver Island Crisis Society

BC-wide Indigenous Toll-Free Crisis & Support Line: Kuu-us Crisis Line

  • At this time, I exclusively offer online therapy through a secure web platform, JaneApp and Zoom.

  • While I absolutely love working with children and teens and have worked with them for years, I have found that virtual therapy is less effective with this age group. As my practice is exclusively online at this time, I have chosen to work solely with adults. However, I do specialize in parent-child attachment EMDR, and am happy to work with parents specifically on supporting their relationship with their children and teens.

  • Research supports weekly or biweekly sessions for therapy to be effective. Healing from trauma and relational wounds is a cumulative process — it builds on itself, and enough regularity is needed to maintain momentum and deepen the work over time. As things improve, spacing sessions out is a natural and healthy part of the process.

It's worth knowing that there's a meaningful difference between therapy and supportive check-in counselling. Sessions every couple of months can offer reflection and support, but they don't allow for the depth or continuity that characterizes real therapeutic change. If you're unsure what frequency makes sense for where you are, that's a good thing to explore in an initial consultation.

  • If you've heard about a specific approach that resonates with you, we can discuss it. However, I adopt an eclectic approach to therapy, meaning that I do not use any one type of therapy in isolation from the others. I'll also offer guidance based on my experience and your needs.
