Hello! I’m Carmel (she/her).

I have always loved working with people. This, combined with a love for social justice, led me to social work and, ultimately, psychotherapy. Over the past decade, I have worked in various mental health and social work positions in settings such as middle schools, primary care, inpatient psychiatric care, community mental health, and Indigenous organizations. In addition to my professional experience, education, and training, it is my own commitment to healing that allows me to be with others in their pursuit of transformation, healing, and growth.

Positionality:

I am a Black identifying, bi-racial woman of Afro-Caribbean and European heritage. I am also neurodivergent (ADHD), non-disabled, straight-sized, cisgender, and bisexual. I strive to be mindful of the positions of power and privilege that I occupy and I acknowledge that my own lived experiences and social locations inform my understanding and approach as a therapist.

Therapeutic Modalities

While I take an integrative approach to therapy, the foundation of my work is Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). AEDP is an attachment-based, emotion-focused model that helps us heal through connection, safety, and harnesses our innate drive towards healing and thriving. Alongside AEDP, I draw from:

I invest in regular clinical consultation, personal therapy, and professional development because I believe the quality of my presence matters as much as the modalities I use. You can learn more about my qualifications and advanced trainings below.
